The 14th Austrian Congress of Business Education and Development took place on Friday, 9th April. Due to the pandemic situation this year, the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz organized the congress online. The congress was opened with 273 participants by Michaela Stock, the director of the Department of Business Education and Development. The rector Martin Polaschek, dean Thomas Foscht and ministerial councilor Katharina Kiss sent a warm welcome to all the participants and presenters.
The four main presentations in the morning were performed by the Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck, the Johannes Kepler University of Linz, the Vienna University of Economics and Business and by a cooperation from the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz and the Humboldt-University of Berlin.
Many of the presentations were about accounting:
- "Accounting is dead, long live accounting!" Didactic considerations on teaching accounting based on interviews with experts
- Instruction-related beliefs of Business Education students about the accounting teaching
- How does the ability of students to plan accounting lessens develops during the master’s degree program in Business Education? Results of an Austria-wide longitudinal study
- Requirements for a textbook for the subject CRW. Report on the results of a survey of Austrian CRW teachers
All these subjects show the development of the future of accounting. People want to get more information from accounting, not only the calculation. They want to know results’ meanings. What should they do with these results? Which step is the next one for the company? So, they analyze the results and the effects for the company.
Another point was to explore, which software teachers use in their CRW-lessons. So, they asked 132 Business Education teachers. The result was that BMD is the most known and the most used program in the CRW-lessons. If we have a look on the work of the accounting department within our practice firm eXpand, we can see that we work with BMD too. So, the students at school and the students at university both use the same program. So, students are well prepared for the work in a practice firm.
The next Austrian Congress of Business Education takes place on 22nd April, 2022 and will be organized by the Vienna University of Economics and Business. We are looking forward to it.
