English as a working language

As you all know, we the eXpand are a practice firm which working language is English. We do profit a lot of talking, writing and operating in a foreign language. Another major advantage is, that we have an English native speaker, Laura Moazedi, who helps us improve our English during the eXpand semester. Laura was so kind to answer some of our questions why students can profit from English as a working language:

Why do you think that an English PF is a good idea? How can English as a working language help the students in their future careers?

I am convinced that a PF held in English is an excellent idea for several reasons ranging from students using English as a working language (versus "typical/theoretical" learning of a foreign language), providing a most natural setting in which English is used to preparing students for an international context including work.

Do you think is it necessary that an English teacher/native speaker is present at a PF at school?

Having somebody there who watches the language is probably not necessary in the sense that it would otherwise not work. However, I do believe that it is an asset since this person makes sure progress (here defined in terms of language) is made and realised.

How long are you already participating in the eXpand meetings?

I have been part of eXpand for many years now.

Do the student make use of the part "most frequent mistakes", do you recognize any improvements?

Students usually notice their most frequent errors as the feedback given at the end of each session aims to raise awareness.
